New bylaw tightens taxi regulations in North Battleford
North Battleford council has approved a new vehicle-for-hire bylaw that strengthens regulations for taxi companies and drivers while bringing the city’s rules in line with provincial legislation.
City administration said the previous bylaw no longer reflected current legislation, modern service models or expectations around safety and accountability, prompting a comprehensive update to licensing and oversight requirements.
Local vehicle-for-hire businesses were consulted during the drafting process.
The new bylaw includes rules governing trip deposits, prepayment for out-of-town rides, refusal of service, driver licensing and mandatory safety equipment, including in-vehicle cameras.
