Anyone interested in learning more about the Battlefords Regional Community Coalition and the Sacichawasihc Relationship Agreement will want to attend a luncheon presentation coming up.

Called Mamawicihitowin/Working Together, the event takes place April 3 at Tropical Inn in North Battleford.

Battleford Mayor Ames Leslie discussed the presentation at council Monday and said it will be a good chance for people to meet the seven leaders in the partnership.

“I think it’s great,” said Leslie. “A lot of the community members are wondering … what we are all about, and what we are trying to strive to accomplish.”

He said people will hear first-hand some of the group’s goals, and “how we can work together to make the region stronger and healthier for everybody.”

The coalition is comprised of Chief Kenny Moccasin (Saulteaux First Nation), Chief Bradley Swiftwolfe (Moosomin First Nation), Chief Crystal Okemow (Lucky Man Cree Nation), Chief Lori Whitecalf (Sweetgrass First Nation), Chief Wayne Semaganis (Little Pine First Nation), Battleford Mayor Ames Leslie and North Battleford Mayor Ryan Bater.

The Battlefords Regional Community Coalition said in the promotion for the event they hope to turn “our shared issues and challenges into opportunities.”

“We, the regional leaders invite you to come out and learn more about this important work and our visions of building a better Battlefords region,” they said.

The keynote speaker at the gathering will be businessman and philanthropist W. Brett Wilson.

“Brett Wilson and his foundation have been a very big supporter of this coalition right from the start,” Leslie said.He will speak to some of his involvement, and his trust and belief in what this coalition is going to do.”

The event runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Since seating is limited to this free luncheon talk, people must RSVP by March 26 to Herb Sutton at sutton.herb@gmail.com or Milton Tootoosis at milt22sis@icloud.com

“There are a lot of great things coming down the path,” Leslie said. “One of the first things that this coalition is going to work towards is public safety. There are a lot of irons in the fire, and I hope we can share a lot more come April 3.”
