Winner announced in the BUH $100,000 lottery

A patient won big money playing the lottery at the hospital she attended.

The win was a touch bitter sweet for Lydia Hagen who bought her ticket for the Battlefords Union Hospital (BUH) $100,000 draw. An undisclosed accident sent her to the BUH and she was in the building when her name was drawn as the big winner.

“Somebody came into my room and told me,” Hagen said. “It is very overwhelming. Now the job of how to spend it, maybe I’ll use it to get my broken body looked after.”

Hagen said she used to be a BUH employee and is actually a patient on the same floor she used to work on.

The BUH also announced its 50-50 winner. Deanna Spence of North Battleford won roughly $51,000. She is currently at her summer home in Arizona so her daughter Brandi Keller who works at the hospital accepted it on her behalf.

“I tried to steal it but they wouldn’t give it to me. Apparently they sent it to her already,” Keller said.

The other half of the 50-50 draw went to the lab at the hospital.
