Artist Consultations

Jun 1, 2016 | 11:52 AM

The Saskatchewan Arts Board is in the process of reviewing all of the ways in which we support the work of individual artists. Although this review will, by its nature, focus on the work of our important Independent Artists funding program, we also want to consider how we support artists with multi-faceted careers who produce work independently and collaboratively and who also work in school and community settings.

We have set up eight community meetings to hear what you think.

Who should come to these meetings?

We want to hear from everyone – aspiring, emerging, and established independent artists as well as the people and organizations who work for them – to help us shape the most dynamic program.

You should attend one of these meetings if:

you’ve ever applied for funding from the Saskatchewan Arts Board, whether or not you received it;
you haven’t applied for Arts Board funding before, and you want to help shape the program to better suit your needs; or even if
you just want to want to learn more about how the Arts Board funding programs for individual artists work.

What will happen?

At the meetings, the Arts Board will give a brief background to our current programs, but mostly we want to listen to you. We want to hear your thoughts about who and what programs for independent artists should be supporting, what you would do differently, and what your great ideas for an entirely new system might be.

And, most importantly, you’ll get to sit in a room and have an amazing conversation with a cool group of independent artists who all care so much about the work we do in this province.

When and where are these meetings scheduled?

What if I can’t make any of those times?

There will be many more opportunities to engage in this review process. Our current plans include an online webinar where the Arts Board presents the findings from these meetings, a publication reflecting those findings, and an online survey. Watch our website for more details.
