North Battleford property owners have 30-day window to appeal 2026 assessments

Mar 25, 2026 | 10:44 AM

Property owners in North Battleford will have a one-month window to review and challenge their assessed property values as the city opens its 2026 assessment roll this week.

The roll will be available from March 26 to April 27, the only period during which residents can file an appeal of their Saskatchewan Assessment Management Agency (SAMA) valuation.

Mayor Kelli Hawtin says the assessments form the basis for calculating property taxes, making the review period critical for homeowners.

“When the assessment roll is open, it is important for all people to understand that that’s when we get to look at the value, the assessed value of our home, which is what your taxes are calculated on,” Hawtin said.

“So if you’re not sure, you should really have a look at your assessment, you should come into City Hall while the rolls open and understand if that number is correct, because if it’s not correct, you only have one month to appeal it, which could result in changes sometimes up or down.”

“If it’s overvalued, you might be overpaying your taxes.”

The City’s external assessor conducts property revaluations on a four-year cycle, with the most recent completed in 2025. This year’s assessed values reflect market conditions as of Jan. 1, 2025.

Residents can review their assessments online through SAMA or contact the agency directly to discuss their valuation. The City is also hosting appointment-only open house sessions on April 15 and 16 at the Don Ross Centre, with options for in-person or virtual meetings.

The City expects to set property tax mill rates by mid-May and distribute tax notices later that month.

The school board support designation on property taxes can also be changed during the assessment roll period.
