North Stars fall 6-3 to the Flin Flon Bombers on Teddy Bear Toss night

Dec 14, 2025 | 12:57 AM

Battlefords North Stars forward Drew Williamson scored the goal in the second period to send teddy bears flying over the glass at the Access Communications Centre. However, it wasn’t the result the North Stars wanted in a 6-3 loss to the Flin Flon Bombers.

Contrary to Friday night’s game with no goals in the first period, the Bombers took the lead in the opening frame. Less than 10 minutes into the period, Jacob Baumann picked up a rebound and slid it past North Stars goaltender Kaeden Serpa. His first SJHL goal gave the Bombers a 1-0 lead.

Late in the first period on the powerplay, Sam Ward weaved into the zone one-on-one with Linken Fisher and put the shot under the arm of Kaeden Serpa to put the Bombers up 2-0 heading into the second period.

Not even a minute into the second period, Raiden Zacharias put a shot on that was saved by Bombers goalie Finn Werner. Drew Williamson picked up the rebound and put it top shelf to cut the North Stars deficit to 2-1 and the ice filled with teddy bears.

The party was stopped a few minutes later when Maverick Deslisle deflected in a point shot to restore the two-goal lead for the Bombers and make it a 3-1 game.

The Bombers had a powerplay opportunity about five minutes later, but the North Stars truck while shorthanded. Carter Geysen intercepted a pass at the point and broke out for a breakaway. He went blocker side on Werner and made no mistake to make it 3-2 Bombers.

With less than three minutes to go in the second period, Serpa coughed up a rebound which bounced around the crease before Leo Seitz picked it up and put it in and made it 4-2 Bombers heading into the second period.

The Bombers went up 5-2 a few minutes into the third when Jack Martin scored on a rebound. Finlay Klippenstein got one back for the North Stars going top shelf on a 3-on-1, but that’s all the North Stars could get.

Pierce Yakimchuk scored a full ice empty netter for the Bombers to seal it and take the 6-3 win. The teams split the weekend series at one game apiece, and the North Stars fell behind the Kindersley Klippers and moved to second place in the Nutrien Division.

The North Stars next game comes on Dec. 16 when they face off with the Humboldt Broncos at home before the Christmas break.
