Man from Prince Albert area killed in Wednesday crash on Petrofka Bridge

A 63-year-old man from the Prince Albert area has died following a crash on the Petrofka Bridge, south of Blaine Lake.

Blaine Lake and Rosthern RCMP were called to the single-vehicle collision on Highway 12 at about 3 a.m. Wednesday. Investigation determined the minivan he was driving struck a roadside safety barrier, before colliding with a heavy equipment vehicle that was parked on the bridge.

The driver, who was the lone occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene by local paramedics. No one was inside the heavy equipment vehicle at the time of the collision. Highway 12 was temporarily closed following the crash but has since reopened.

No cause was given, as police continue to investigate with the assistance from an RCMP collision reconstructionist.
