North Stars fall 2-1 in overtime to the Melville Millionaires

Nov 1, 2025 | 11:10 PM

The Battlefords North Stars failed to get a win on their weekend road trip after losing 2-1 to the Melville Millionaires in overtime.

Devon Winder got on the board for the Millionaires late in the first period. Melville had the puck in the North Stars zone for an extended period of time. After the Millionaires got the puck loose from a battle along the boards, the puck made its way to the stick of Devon Winder. Winder cut across the zone and scored top shelf on North Stars goaltender Steele Bass to give the Millionares the lead.

The second period was back and forth, but no one was able to get on the board. Both teams had powerplay opportunities throughout the period, with no one able to capitalize.

With less than five minutes to go in the third period, Linken Fisher walked into the zone on the left side and was stopped by Fuzz Aafedt and the puck went to the left side of the net. Fisher recognized that Aafedt was out of position, brought it around the net and scored the wraparound to tie the game up at one.

In the overtime period, a pass from Louis Nadeau made its way to Preston Baerwald, and Baerwalk was able to put the puck in past Bass and a diving Kaleb Dewar who was trying to come back and make a play on the rush. The overtime winning goal gave the Millionaires a 2-1 victory.

With the loss, the North Stars have dropped two straight games, only getting one of a possible four points on the weekend. They will look to avoid three straight losses when they face off with the Nipawin Hawks at home on Nov. 4. It will be the first home game for the North Stars since Oct. 10 when they took down the Humboldt Broncos 5-4.

The Ultra Print Services pregame show will begin at 7:00 pm, with Napa Auto Parts North Stars hockey starting at 7:30 on CJNB/CJNS.
