Dec 2, 2023 | 8:00 AM

A new non-profit group called the Battlefords Community Project are organizing a fun event to give back to the community.

People are invited to attend the free Christmas Giveaway Bingo night.

The event will take place at the Air Cadets Hall at 792-111 St. in North Battleford, starting at 6 p.m. on Dec. 7.

Attendees have a chance to win some Christmas presents for themselves or to give to a friend or family member.

The event also includes guest speaker Elder and former Chief of Little Pine First Nation Wayne Semaganis who will give a talk about the project and its work.

“If you are in the Battlefords or coming through, drop in. Everyone is welcome,” said Kim Morrison, co-leader of the group, who is also with the Catholic Family Services of the Battlefords.

“We’re a group of community volunteers who just want to make the Battlefords a better place for everyone, and make the Battlefords welcoming, a home and a good neighbourhood for everybody. Everyone has something that they can offer, and everyone is needed.”

Morrison added the group hopes to bridge any gaps between communities in the Battlefords.

Since it was formed, the group has been visiting various events and asking people what they appreciate about the Battlefords. The core group of volunteers aims to build on those strengths.

The group is intercultural with a combined interest to better bring the different communities together.

Entrepreneur and philanthropist Brett Wilson is funding the Battlefords Community Project’s work as part of his organization – The Wilson Battlefords Initiative.

“They’ve been very generous in supporting our group,” Morrison said.

The Battlefords Community Project is also applying for grant funding to become more
self-sufficient for the future.
