North Stars Bell, Izyk named to SJHL Players of the Month

A pair of Battlefords North Stars have been named Players of the Month for November.

Forward Kian Bell has been named the SJHL MVP of the Month, while Alex Izyk has been dubbed the Defenceman of the Month.

Bell is coming off a dominant showing that saw the dynamic winger post 27 points (11 goals, 16 assists) in 11 games, highlighted by a pair of four-point games, and five three-point outings, including his goal and two-assist performance Wednesday night against Notre Dame.

“Kian, ever since he’s gotten back, has bolstered our lineup,” said Brayden Klimosko, head coach of the North Stars. “He’s put a surge into our power play and given everyone all types of confidence and it’s amazing what he’s been able to do.”

Despite having played just 14 games this season, Bell enters the weekend second in the league scoring race with 37 points (16 goals, 21 assists). To add further context to the Fall River, NS product’s dominance, no other player in the top-20 of league scoring has played less than 20 games.

Alex Izyk – SJHL Defenceman of the Month

Izyk paced all defensemen in scoring over the last month with 16 points (five goals, 11 assists) in 12 games, registering at least a single point in all but two outings.

Saving his best for the month’s finale, Izyk potted three goals Wednesday night for his first career hat trick.

“Alex has really turned it on in the last six weeks or so, and obviously to cap it off with a hat trick this week, he just keeps developing,” Klimosko said. “He keeps having a season like he has been and he’s going to have lots to be happy about next year with a scholarship from some high-end school.”

Through 23 games, Izyk has 22 points (seven goals, 15 assists) to sit top-five in defenceman scoring.

Also recognized in the SJHL Players of the Month for November were Forward of the Month, Justin Lies (Flin Flon Bombers); Rookie of the Month, Keenan Ingram (Kindersley Klippers); Goalie of the Month, Harmon Laser-Hume (Flin Flon Bombers); and Saskatchewan Player of the Month, Spencer Bell (Humboldt Broncos).
