Not guilty pleas entered in Mistawasis drug bust case

A Prince Albert woman, facing over 30 charges related to guns and drugs, is maintaining her innocence and opting to face trial.

Faith Girourard, who was 30 at the time of her arrest earlier this month, appeared by video when her case was spoken to Thursday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court. The not-guilty pleas were entered by Girourard’s lawyer.

On Jan. 1, around 1:50 p.m., Ahtahkakoop RCMP drove up to an abandoned home on the Mistawasis First Nation after receiving a report of possible gunshots.

As they pulled into the driveway, three people were seen entering a black truck and attempting to flee. However, the vehicle quickly got stuck in the snow with all three running on foot.

Girourard was arrested soon after, while the other two people, believed to both be men, escaped.

Inside Girourard’s purse, police said they found around 293 grams of suspected methamphetamine, a large sum of cash, and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking activity.

Officers returned to the abandoned home and a search of three vehicles on the property resulted in the seizure of six firearms, including a sawed-off shotgun.

Girouard’s lawyer elected for the trial to be held at Prince Albert Provincial Court but no date has been set at this time. The case is back in court on Monday.
