Sharks to face Stars during first-ever Q98 female hockey broadcast

Nov 3, 2026 | 12:10 PM

The Battlefords Sharks head to Saskatoon tonight to take on the Stars in the team’s first-ever radio broadcast on Q98.

The Sharks (W-L-OTW-OTL: 7-0-2-1, 1st in SFU18AAAHL) suffered their first loss of the season this past weekend, falling 1-0 in overtime to the Regina Rebels.

Meanwhile, the Stars (2-5-2-0, 5th in SFU18AAAHL) are looking for their second straight win after a 3-2 victory on Sunday against the Notre Dame Hounds.

Though it was disappointing for the Sharks to suffer their first loss of the year, head coach Nolan Horbach said he knew the Sharks weren’t going to go undefeated all season and that it’s better to face that adversity now than later.

“A little bit of a reality check is okay. October is not a bad time for that to happen,” he said.

“We’re a third of the way into the regular season, and we have one loss up until this point with the young group we have,” Horbach said. “I couldn’t be happier. I’m not sure anybody would have expected us to be where we are, but we’ve had an incredible start, and we’ll just look to build off of that.”

The Sharks were missing Brooke Weber in Regina, but Horbach said Hannah Weseen stepped up in her absence.

“Hannah did an incredible job, and it was probably her best complete game, like a 200-foot game, exceptionally committed and detailed, and all it did was create opportunities going the other way,” he said.

Weseen is second on the team in scoring with six goals and seven assists for 13 points in 10 games, while Julia Poole leads the team with seven goals and eight assists for 15 points in 10 games.

Weber is expected to return for the Sharks tonight, bringing experience and leadership back to the ice.

“We’ve gone enough time without her. We’re excited to have her back,” Horbach said.

Fans will have an opportunity to listen to Sharks hockey on Q98 for the very first time.

“These players have given our community plenty to cheer about, and thanks to our sponsors, we can help bring their games to a wider audience,” said station manager Mike Aimoe.

“North Stars broadcasts have been a big part of our local sports coverage, and we’re excited to give fans a chance to follow the Sharks on the radio too,” Aimoe said.

Horbach also spoke about the team’s excitement to get on the airwaves.

“I’m not sure people are aware of just what this group has done over the last years. You look at the success we’ve had individually with the girls moving on, playing university, college hockey, and just from a team perspective, we don’t lose a lot,” he said.

“I think we play an exciting game of hockey. To have the group behind us help get that out to everybody else. Couldn’t be happier,” he added.

Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m. when the Sharks take on the Stars in their first game broadcast on Q98.
