UPDATE: Serious collision on Highway 4, south of Meadow Lake

Aug 15, 2022 | 10:23 AM

UPDATE: Meadow Lake RCMP is now investigating this incident as a fatal collision.

The RCMP received a report Sunday at about 10:30 p.m. of a collision on Highway 4, south of Meadow Lake. The investigation determined an SUV and semi collided. The driver of the semi was taken to hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

The driver of the SUV, a 21-year-old man from Big Island Lake Cree Nation, was declared deceased by EMS at the scene. He had been reported missing to Pierceland RCMP earlier that evening and was the subject of a previous missing person media release.

Police report his family has been notified of his death. Highway 4 was closed during initial investigation but has since re-opened.

Meadow Lake RCMP continue to investigate with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP collision re-constructionist.

Drivers heading north on Highway 4 will have to alter their route following a major accident.

Meadow Lake RCMP are advising the public that a serious motor vehicle collision investigation is occurring about 20 miles south of Meadow Lake. The road will remain closed for a significant period for traffic analysts to complete their work. It is likely that Highway 4 will not be re-opened for a few hours.

The road is through a forested area with no local detour, so motorists will need to alter their driving plans with significant detours or postpone early morning travel plans. Drivers can consult Saskatchewan Highways online at Highway Hotline for information regarding the road re-opening.
