RCMP Report Pt. 1: Two sexual assault arrests made in Battlefords

May 4, 2022 | 2:26 PM

Update: Tanya Armstrong has been located.

Battlefords RCMP made two arrests related to separate allegations of sexual assault.

The detachment received a 911 call from a residence on the 1300 block of 103rd Street in North Battleford shortly after 5:00 a.m. on Sunday. Members arrived and located a 32-year-old woman suffering several noticeable injuries and arrested a 26-year-old male known to the victim. It was alleged he held the victim at the residence against her will for several hours and assaulted her.

Sgt. Tremblay said there are some details that are yet unknown and that they’ve been monitoring the victim.

“We’ve been checking on her and she is expected to recover,” he said.

The accused was remanded into custody and made his first court appearance on Monday. He was charged with forcible confinement and sexual assault.

Given the sensitivity of the charges, Tremblay said his name is not being released at this time.

“I’m not sure yet what the court’s determination is on what will be publishable or not publishable,” he said.

Police also arrested a 50-year-old woman and charged her with sexual assault, sexual interference and uttering threats. This came after an incident on 102nd Street reported late Monday morning.

The accused is alleged to have assaulted a male youth and then threatened him after the incident. The victim was not injured during the incident, while the accused made her first appearance in court on Tuesday.

Tremblay said because of the victim’s age and the charges in this case, there’s likely a publication ban here as well.

Impaired vehicular assault

A 19-year-old male is facing numerous charges after he allegedly struck a person with his vehicle.

The reported incident occurred at a rural residence south of Battleford just after 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, where the male allegedly attended a party where he was not welcome. After initially refusing a request to leave, he struck a person standing near the driveway before fleeing the scene. The accused was located and arrested a short time later in North Battleford, while the individual struck by the vehicle was treated at hospital for serious but non-life threatening injuries.

“The victim’s already been spoken to and is expected to make a full recovery,” Tremblay said.

As a result, the accused is facing charges of dangerous driving, impaired driving causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon and failing to remain after an accident resulting in bodily harm. He has since been released from custody and will appear in court this June.

Tremblay said there’s some investigation ahead, but they are unlikely to affect the charges.

“The courts will look at the totality of everything, including what the weapon was,” he said. “You could technically get charged for using your cell phone as a weapon, but what’s likely to cause more injury, a cell phone or a car?”

Missing woman

The detachment is searching for 40-year-old Tanya Armstrong, who was last reported seen on April 28 by family who live in Saskatoon. There is information she was in Prince Albert as recently as Monday.

Armstrong is 5’5” with a stocky build, brown eyes and medium length brown hair.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts or any other incident or case can call the Battlefords RCMP detachment, 310-RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
