Town offering prize for business with prettiest storefront

Businesses in Battleford will have a chance to strut their stuff for a chance to win a prize with a new contest the town is organizing.

At Monday’s council meeting, town community planner Paige Reynolds proposed the Storefront Beautiful Business Contest to give a bit of a boost to local establishments.

Reynolds said the contest will be a good way to encourage more businesses to engage with the town, as well as beautify the community. Businesses might want to beautify their storefront through a number of ways, such as by adding some window paint, balloons or flowers, for example.

The contest will run from July 1 to 30 and will be open to all business owners in the municipality in the commercial and industrial districts. Businesses will submit their names to be included in the contest and council will pick a winner. Council will officially announce the winner at its August meeting.

Council agreed for the town to offer a $100 prize to the winning business. Mayor Ames Leslie said he would match that amount to bring the prize up to $200.

“It will be a little more of something to compete for,” he said.

Council suggested the lucky business might want to use the prize winnings to take their staff out for dinner.

The contest is only open to Battleford business owners.

Council and management of the town or members of their family with whom they reside are not allowed to participate in the contest.

The town wants to be clear that the Storefront Beautiful Business Contest is not to be confused with the Downtown Revitalization Program as the prize will not be a tax abatement and will not be determined on the cost incurred.
