A man facing a charge in the death of Cindy MacKay has been released on bail, with conditions he is required to follow.

Michael MacKay, 38, is charged with first degree murder in the death of his wife Cindy MacKay, 38, of the Meota area.

Michael MacKay, who was arrested March 18, had his appearance waived in North Battleford provincial court Friday.

Court heard he was released on bail with conditions on April 13, following a bail hearing at Queen’s Bench court April 8.

Defence lawyer Nicholas Stooshinoff said at provincial court today MacKay has elected trial by judge and jury.

MacKay’s case was adjourned to May 14 at 10 a.m. to set a preliminary hearing date.

According to the RCMP, Cindy MacKay was in medical distress on Feb. 7, 2020, and transported to hospital. She later died in hospital on Feb. 12, 2020.

The RCMP stated in their March 19, 2021 release that healthcare professionals raised concerns to the detachment while Cindy MacKay was still in hospital, prior to her death, which prompted the investigation.

The allegation against the accused has not been proven in court.
