Traffic through the Battlefords was disrupted this morning by a single vehicle accident that blocked off the exit to Highway 16 West, just across the bridge over the North Saskatchewan River.

Sometime around 8:00 a.m., a semi-truck carrying grain tipped over as it came around the bend of the exit, spilling its contents into the ditch. battlefordsNOW was on scene and was told the driver is in good condition with only a minor contusion.

Fire crews from the Battleford Fire Department worked with RCMP to close the exit onto Highway 16 and reroute traffic. Around 9:30 a.m., crew members worked with tow trucks to safely bring the semi back onto its wheels. Road clean up and transportation of the semi is still underway and the removal of the spilled grain has yet to take place. According to the owner of the truck, the total amount of grain is roughly 44 tons.
