Lights of Hope holiday display in Battleford starts Saturday night

If you are in Battleford on the weekend don’t forget to take a drive by the Historic Lions Park to see all the trees illuminated, marking the start of the holiday season.

The Battleford Community Spirit Group is once again organizing the initiative.

Due to COVID-19 precautions, people are asked not to gather. Instead, they can enjoy the display from their vehicles.

’We thought it was appropriate to name it the Lights of Hope this year because everybody needs a little bit of hope with everything that is going on,“ committee member and town councillor Judy Pruden said.

Organizers are not able to hold an event to launch the project this year, to comply with the province’s restrictions.

The decorative lights adorning 16 trees near the gazebo on 22nd Street will be turned on starting Saturday evening after 7 p.m. There will also be an assortment of festive hanging baskets as part of the display.

Pruden thanks all the sponsors who stepped up to make a donation to support the project.

“We’re just really happy and proud that we had such a wonderful response from the community – businesses, families and so on,” she said. “And, we want to thank the Town of Battleford staff for all the work they do, putting the lights on and getting the park ready.”
