‘We have a lot of fun here’: Youth enjoy Northwest Territorial Days midway

battlefordsNOW caught up with several young fairgoers to find out what they were enjoying most, which rides earned their approval and what keeps them coming back.

“We come here every year,” Aleks said.

He and his friend Aiden also volunteer each year at one of the food booths on the grounds.

“It’s awesome!” Aiden said. “We have a lot of fun here.”

For Millennium, Raquel and Maddy, it was their first time experiencing the Northwest Territorial Days midway.

“We usually go to all of the fairs in the area, but this is our first year coming here,” Maddy said.

“We like it, it’s been fun,” Raquel added.

Meanwhile, Alyssa, Emily and Chloe said Northwest Territorial Days has become a regular part of their summers.

“We have been almost every year,” Emily said.

When it came to the rides, the groups had some favourites in common.

Among the top picks was the ‘Speed’ ride, a long rotating arm that towers more than 100 feet into the air and sends riders flipping as it spins. The ‘Zipper’, with its enclosed cars spinning as they travel around the ride, was another favourite, along with the classic swings.

Choosing the best carnival snack, however, was a little more difficult.

Spudnuts, corn dogs and pickles on a stick were among the favourites, while others opted for snow cones and fair lemonade.

Whether they were visiting for the first time or returning for another year, the young fairgoers had no shortage of ways to spend an afternoon on the midway.

And with rides to brave, games to play and plenty of fair food to choose from, they agreed on one thing, Northwest Territorial Days is a summer tradition worth coming back for.
