Battlefords Co-op Aquatic Centre to re-open August 5

Jun 30, 2020 | 6:14 PM

It will soon be time to hit the pool in North Battleford.

The city has announced the Battlefords Co-op Aquatic Centre will be able to re-open to the public on Wednesday, Aug. 5.

While in the province’s Re-Open Saskatchewan plan, indoor aquatic facilities can re-open, if able, as of July 6, the city plans to re-open its facility for the August date so it can meet all the province’s COVID-19 requirements and to also finish some maintenance work needed.

Mayor Ryan Bater said the city will open the facility in accordance with the measures council adopted at its recent special meeting.

“There will be no lessons,” he said. “We will be open for lane swimming and for the main pool. The water slides will not be open, neither will the lazy river.”

But the rest of the main pool and the hot tub will be open.

“Because of the requirements for sanitization, lockers and showers won’t be available either,” the mayor said.

The city said in a media release the facility had been scheduled for extensive repairs and maintenance work in 2021. However, with all leisure facilities being closed to the public to help prevent the risk of COVID-19, the city decided to complete the maintenance work this year to limit the time the facility is closed to the public. The maintenance work is currently underway.

The city said residents looking to cool off in the summer heat can make use of the spray parks located at Senator Herb Sparrow Park, Centennial Park and Kinsmen Park, daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. People are asked to follow the COVID-19 guidelines posted at all spray parks.

The city reported any information related to opening dates for other Leisure Services facilities will be provided at a later date.
