Virtual Reality Arcade to reopen doors soon

As June 8 approaches, many businesses across the province are busy preparing for their re-opening during phase three of the provincial government’s plan.

Strict guidelines for customers, new protocols for employees and limits on capacity are some of the new realities business owners face as they prepare to welcome patrons back.

Despite these challenges Tammy Froese, owner of Legendz VR Arcade in North Battleford, said she is eager to have customers back inside the arcade.

“We are very excited to be opening again on June 10 to all our customers. I think it was a hard time for everyone but we made it through and that’s the good thing about this,” she said.

Froese explained it would not be business as usual when they open doors. There are plenty of new guidelines and protocols.

“Most notably we are now only accepting bookings that have to be made at least 24 hours in advance. There will absolutely be no more walk-ins allowed in the arcade until we are told we can go ahead with that from the SHA,” she said.

Froese said they have also decided not to allow large groups into the arcade and will be limiting the number of customers inside at one time.

“We will only be allowing eight people into the arcade at one time, and that is only if they are booking a party with us. If they are just coming in to play [it will be a] maximum of four people,” she said.

Since opening on July 5, 2019, the arcade has required all players to sign a waiver before they can play. Froese said this process will now be handled digitally. Waivers can be found on the business’s Facebook page and website.

With a virtual reality arcade, customers put the equipment on their face. Froese said they have doubled their efforts to maintain cleanliness and disinfect all equipment between uses.

“We have already had high standards when it comes to our disinfecting and cleanliness. That is something that we take pride in, so we are just going to continue on with that,” she said. “We were only needing 15 minutes before, but now we are going to make that 30 minutes between each booking just to make sure we have ample time before the next customer.”

Froese said the virtual arcade can provide a sense of escapism for their customers and there is no better time for something like that than right now in Saskatchewan.

“That is the whole point behind having the arcade. Seeing people having fun, filled with excitement and being happy and not worrying about the daily stresses outside the arcade. So we are just really excited to be able to get people back in and start seeing that and provide them a break from real life,” she said.

Legendz VR Arcade will be reopening on Wednesday, June 10. The location will be open Wednesdays to Sundays from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.
