One individual has been arrested after a vehicle rammed into the playground at St. Mary’s School Thursday.

In a release, Battleford RCMP said they were called to the elementary school at approximately 2 a.m., locating a vehicle with extensive damage on scene. No one was in or around the vehicle at the time, though there was evidence to suggest injuries.

RCMP then attended the address of the registered owner and identified individuals with non-life-threatening injuries. One arrest was made at the residence and the investigation is ongoing, with further arrest and charges pending, police say. Investigators believe alcohol was a factor in the collision.

Jordan Kist, CFO for Light of Christ Catholic Schools, said they’re thankful students and staff weren’t on site in this case.

“We’re going to get the site cleaned up as soon as possible,” Kist said. “With the intent of repairing or replacing where we can.”

The repairs to the playground are expected to cost several thousand dollars, though at this time, an exact estimate is unavailable.
