Battlefords Union Hospital Foundation continues fundraising efforts through COVID-19

The Battlefords Union Hospital (BUH) Foundation’s monthly lottery is wrapping up on Friday April, 17 and only has less than fifty tickets available.

Claudette McGuire, BUH Foundation Executive Director, said they are always happy to see the Battlefords community come together to support local healthcare.

“Everybody in the community always steps up to help the BUH foundation enhance healthcare for the community. Of course it can’t be any more important than it is right now,” she said.

McGuire said they are hopeful they will be able to sell out the rest of the lottery before the draw. They are using the funds from this year’s monthly lottery to buy some new equipment.

“We are really hopeful that people will help us sell out and that we can meet our budget line. This year with the monthly lottery we are purchasing a new patient monitor for the operating room,” she said.

With the COVID-19 situation in the province, most businesses and organizations are having to work around social distancing and people who need to self-isolate. Claudette said the BUH Foundation temporarily moved out of the hospital to help with their isolation.

“We are all [the province] under isolation and lockdown. We had to move out of the hospital, though when this is all over we will be going back, and so we have a little office that is closed to the public but we are absolutely contactable by phone,” she said.

McGuire said the COVID-19 situation in Saskatchewan has captured everyone’s attention but hasn’t stopped the public’s need for regular healthcare.

“COVID-19 is on but it doesn’t stop healthcare. We are still having babies at BUH, there are still people coming in with broken bones, there are still some surgeries that are going on. It is important to know that COVID-19 doesn’t cancel everything, we still move forward as a healthcare organization. Our fundraisers are important and we’re really hoping people help us sell out,” she said.

The deadline for the lottery is Friday, April 17 at 5 p.m. and tickets are $110 each.

“The community continues to support us. They recognize that healthcare is one of the most important things you can donate to.”
