Still time to buy a light for the Lights of Joy celebration coming to Battleford

Preparations for the Lights of Joy Christmas party project in Battleford are close to completion.

People can still donate to purchase a light bulb at $2 each at Discovery Co-op grocery store and the convenience store and gas bar in Battleford to help light up the trees for this fundraiser.

Tim Pruden, president of the Battleford Community Spirit Group, who is one the event organizers, hopes to see a good turnout for the tree-lighting celebration on the big night.

“I just want everybody to come out on Nov. 23 and have some fun and see the park get lit up. I think it’s going to be pretty exciting,” he said.

Funds raised will benefit the Battleford Community Spirit volunteer group’s future projects – the host of the event.

Pruden said his granddaughter Avery Donahue, who is in Grade 4, came up with the idea for the celebration.

“The project is coming along very well,” he said, adding strings of lights have been sold for all 16 trees.

People can also purchase extra strings of lights for $300 each to add to the project, or simply make a donation if they prefer. About $4,000 was raised to date.

“All the money we raise for the lights goes back into promoting the spirit in the town of Battleford,” Pruden said.

On behalf of the group, he especially wants to thank all the sponsors, businesses and everyone who has supported the project.

The event runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and will include live music and complimentary cookies and hot beverages.

“At 7 p.m. we turn the lights on,” Pruden said.
