Those Were The Days back for 47th year of fun

Aug 3, 2016 | 7:00 PM

It’s a stroll down memory lane this weekend at the Western Development Museum in North Battleford.

The 47th annual Those Were The Days festival runs on Saturday Aug. 6 and Sunday Aug. 7 at the museum and the replica village in the Battlefords.

Volunteers and Events Coordinator Cheryl Stewart-Rahm said the two days are filled with fun activities for all ages.

“We have threshing each day at 3:00 p.m., all of our heritage demonstrations, pioneer competitions, our miniature horses and fancy drills. We have wagon rides and vintage automobiles rides, children’s activities, all sorts of stuff for everyone to do,” she said.

During the festival, demonstrations will be taking place in the historical village, showing attendees what the buildings would have been like in use.

“We have 35 buildings that depict a 1920s village. So everything from a Co-op store to a bank to a harness shop to a doctors home… all sorts of things that are very interesting for sure,” Stewart-Rahm said.

At 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, vintage vehicles and farming machines get to show off during the Parade of Power. Stewart-Rahm said in the past the parade has been a big hit with festival-goers.

“All of the museum’s vintage cars, gas tractors and steam tractors and equipment are in this parade,” Stewart-Rahm said. “Also owner-operators, people that own their own things, bring it to show the general public and put it in the parade also.”

The hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days and admission includes a free flapjack breakfast from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.
