North Battleford to begin annual water line flushing May 4

Apr 28, 2026 | 2:26 PM

If your tap water runs a little murky after supper next week, don’t be alarmed – it’s part of the annual effort to keep the water system clean.

The City of North Battlefoord’s unidirectional water line flushing program is set to begin the evening of May 4, with work expected to take 10 to 14 days to complete.

“This mandatory process ensures the city’s water distribution lines are working properly. It also serves as a way to make sure the city’s water supply quality is optimal,” it stated in a release issued Tuesday.

“The materials that are flushed out of city water lines during this process are harmless and the process requires no additional treatment for safety.”

Flushing will take place in several areas, including:

  • Killdeer Park, Fairview Park and Centennial Park neighbourhoods
  • East of Territorial Drive between 15th Avenue and Wearing Road
  • Yellow Sky and Parsons Industrial Park

City crews will post “water main flushing” signs on affected blocks to notify residents when work is scheduled.

Residents in impacted areas are advised they may continue normal water use until 7 p.m. each evening. If flushing extends over multiple nights, regular use is permitted between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The city is recommending residents avoid using taps after 7 p.m., set aside water in advance for household use, and temporarily shut off appliances such as water softeners or ice makers during flushing periods.

It warn using water during flushing can lead to discoloured water, stained laundry, plugged filters and potential damage to water heaters, adding the city is not responsible for any resulting damage.

Commercial properties are being contacted directly regarding their water use needs, while those with questions can contact City Hall.

“If you use medical equipment requiring continuous water supply, please call City Hall immediately at 306-445-1700.”
