50 additional seats per draw added to the Grand Slam of Curling

More curling fans will have a chance to enjoy the Grand Slam of Curling Canadian Meridian Open.

Fifty additional seats have been added at North Battleford’s Civic Centre for the tournament which begins on Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Previously, mayor Ryan Bater said tickets were quickly selling out and once they were gone, “that’s it.”

He’s now reneged on his comments.

“They told us that since our sidelines are different we could do an additional 50 seats,” Bater said. “So the co-chairs met and they decided to do it and I said ‘hey, I’ve been telling people there will be no additional seats,’ so I am sorry about that.”

According to Bater, the new seats will be even closer to the ice than the best available previously. He hoped anyone previously undecided about buying tickets will purchase the tickets now because there’s no additional charge for the closer seats.

Bater said the weekend playoffs draws were close to sold out before the announcement and tickets for the weekday draws were getting scarce as well.

The additional tickets bring the total amount of seats per draw up to 1,300.
