Discovery Co-op gives North West College $30K to support remote learning

Oct 14, 2026 | 4:53 PM

North West College will use a $30,000 donation from Discovery Co-op to support technology that allows students to join classroom lessons remotely and catch up on learning after work.

Priscilla Lothian, the college’s vice-president of marketing and student experience, said the funding will support site-to-site delivery, connecting classroom instruction with students learning at home and other locations.

Students will be able to use their computers to watch the instructor, listen to lessons, view learning materials on screen and participate, she said.

“That’s wonderful that we can have one instructor, feeding information to three or four different off-site locations,” Lothian said.

Students who work all day “can catch up on information later on,” she said, while those available during class time can participate live.

Lothian said the college is getting full with its various programs and has been finding creative ways to use its space.

Mike Nord, chief executive officer of Discovery Co-op, said the donation comes through its Community Match Fund, a program the co-op can use once a year.

“The things that go on here really do change lives and help build community,” he said. “So for us, we thought it was very important to be able to help with that growth.”

“We have 20,000 members, and without those 20,000 members supporting us, we can’t support the community,” Nord said.

Asked about further donations through the program, Nord said the co-op would continue looking for suitable partners next year.
