FIFA allowing disposable water bottles at World Cup matches

Jun 5, 2026 | 1:27 PM

TORONTO — FIFA is allowing fans to bring disposable water bottles to World Cup matches in Canada and the United States.

A FIFA official says the announcement provides clarity on its policy following backlash about its ban on reusable water bottles at World Cup stadiums.

The chief operating officer of the 2026 World Cup says each fan will be allowed one soft, factory-sealed plastic bottle of up to 590 millilitres.

Still banned are hard-sided reusable water bottles, with FIFA citing safety and security reasons.
