Golden, B.C., hopes to live up to its name with gathering of golden retrievers from across Western Canada
If plans come together, Golden, B.C., will be overflowing with gold this fall…four-legged gold, that is.
A dog lover in the mountain community is trying to organize what she hopes will become Western Canada’s largest meetup of golden retrievers, bringing hundreds of dogs and their owners to the town of Golden on Sept. 26 for a day of activities, contests, vendors and a mass group photo dubbed “The Big Sit.”
Andrea Tubbs, the organizer behind the inaugural Golden Tails Gathering, said the idea came after hearing about a similar event in Golden, Colo.
“I’m a big fan of what I consider the original event in Golden, Colorado,” she said. “So I thought, ‘we’ve got a Golden here in B.C. and I live pretty close, so let’s see if we can get one going.’ I’ve also got two golden retrievers of my own that I absolutely adore, and I thought it would be fun to get a whole bunch of golden retrievers together and celebrate the dogs.”
