UPDATE: fatal Highway 40 crash claims life of 21-Year-Old woman

Battlefords RCMP have confirmed that Wednesday morning’s crash on Highway 40 killed one person, and left two other seriously injured.

On March 24, around 7:30 a.m., police received a report of a vehicle collision on Highway 40, east of Sweetgrass First Nation. Officers along with local fire, EMS, and STARS responded to the scene where it was determined that a truck and an SUV had collided.  

The passenger of the truck, identified as a 21-year-old woman from Saskatoon, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver was taken to the hospital by STARS with serious injuries. Meanwhile, the driver of the SUV was transported to hospital by ambulance, also with serious injuries.  

Battlefords RCMP continues to investigate with assistance from a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist. 

Battlefords RCMP are on the scene of a serious collision on Highway 40, east of Sweetgrass First Nation.

The highway is currently closed for an undetermined amount of time. Drivers should expect delays in the area as detours are in place. They are asked to slow down and follow the instructions of emergency personnel on scene.  

There are no additional details at this time.
