Battlefords North Stars game vs the Humboldt Broncos has been postponed

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Battlefords North Stars home game vs the Humboldt Broncos on Dec. 16 has been postponed. A rescheduled date will be announced in the near future. The North Stars will head into the Christmas break in second place in the Nutrien Division with a record of 15-8-2-2.

Before a couple week break for Christmas, the Battlefords North Stars (15-8-2-2, 2nd in Nutrien Division) will host the Humboldt Broncos (15-11-1-1, 3rd in Nutrien Division) in a Tuesday evening affair.

It’s a big game in the Nutrien Division standings. If the North Stars win tonight, they would jump over the Kindersley Klippers to move into first place in the Nutrien Division. Should the Broncos win in regulation, they would move to a tie in points with the North Stars. However, the North Stars would hold the tiebreaker, so Humboldt is unable to surpass Battlefords in the standings tonight.

The North Stars have won seven of their last 10 games but are coming off a 6-3 loss to the Flin Flon Bombers. Finlay Klippenstein scored in that game to extend his point streak to six games, which is tied with Josh Knittig for a team-long point streak and behind just Weyburn’s Lucas Schmid for a league-long. Klippenstein has scored 15 goals in his last 14 games, and has scored in 12 of the 24 games he has played in so far this season.

The team lead in points still belongs to team captain Anthony Campbell, who has 27 points (8g, 19a) in 27 gaems. Knittig and Gavin Granger are next in points with 26 and 25 points, though Knittig is expected to be out with an upper body injury.

Jacob Strizzi leads the Broncos in points with 45 (22g, 23a) which is 17 points ahead of the next highest scorer, Connor Miller with 28 (15g, 13a). Levy Kozma heads into the game on a three-game goal streak, which is the longest active goal streak in the SJHL.

When playing the Broncos, Kobe Sawyer and Linken Fisher have led the way on the scoresheet with four points each. Sawyer has two goals and two assists while Fisher has a goal and three helpers in the four games they’ve played against Humboldt. Klippenstein has three goals in just two games played against Humboldt.

The North Stars are 3-1-0-0 against the Broncos so far this season, most recently sweeping a weekend series on Nov. 21-22.

Battlefords will have a chance to improve their head-to-head record against the Broncos to 4-1-0-0 and move into first place in the Nutrien Division. The Ultra Print pregame show begins at 7 p.m., the puck drops for Napa Auto Parts North Stars hockey at 7:30 p.m. on CJNB/CJNS.
