Suspect rams police vehicle during escape; seven charged in North Battleford

Seven people are facing charges after two vehicles fled from police during an investigation in North Battleford earlier this week.

Battlefords RCMP officers attempted a traffic stop on a Ford truck on 110th Street at about 12:15 p.m. on April 13 after identifying the driver as a wanted man. The driver fled when police activated their lights and sirens.

Police later located the driver at about 1:30 p.m. on Forest Hall Road, roughly 10 kilometres east of Highway 4, with several other individuals near two trucks – a Ford and a Dodge.

Officers approached with emergency equipment activated, but the group entered the trucks and tried to flee again.

The Dodge truck drove into a ditch, where the driver was arrested.

At the same time, the Ford truck became inoperable. Its driver exited the vehicle, entered the Dodge truck and struck an occupied police vehicle while fleeing at a high rate of speed. Officers were not injured.

A woman who had been in the Ford truck was also arrested at the scene.

Around 2 p.m., police located the Dodge truck near Rabbit Lake. Officers arrested five adults near the vehicle, one woman and four men, while Police Dog Services tracked down and arrested the driver, who had fled on foot. One of the individuals was later released without charge.

RCMP said a search of the Dodge truck turned up a large sum of cash under the driver’s seat. Officers also seized two pairs of brass knuckles and an edged weapon from those arrested.

Cody Caron, 43, of Douglas, Sask., was arrested on outstanding warrants and faces multiple charges, including resisting arrest, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failing to stop after an accident and mischief under $5,000.

Jason Rousseau, 39, of Surrey, B.C., is charged with flight from police.

Iesha Wuttunee, 26, of North Battleford, is charged with resisting arrest.

Hannah Bolig, 25, Tyson Mosquito, 36, both of North Battleford, and Tristan Pritchard, 29, of Wilkie, each face charges of resisting arrest, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and carrying a concealed weapon. Bolig also faces two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

John Jepson, 24, of Saskatoon, was arrested on outstanding warrants and is charged with mischief.

All seven accused made their first court appearance in North Battleford Provincial Court on April 14.
