North Battleford eyes road closure to make way for SaskPower project

The City of North Battleford is considering permanently closing a portion of a road to accommodate infrastructure needs tied to SaskPower’s Yellowhead Power Station.

A public notice issued by the city says council will review a proposed bylaw to close and transfer part of Range Road 3162, located in the northeast quarter of 22-43-16-W3.

The move would see the west 7.5 metres of a 15-metre road widening area permanently closed and transferred, with the land required for the nearby power station project.

The affected section is a narrow strip along the edge of the roadway, as outlined in a map included in the notice, and is adjacent to the Yellowhead Power Station site.

The city says the closure is being proposed under Section 13 of The Cities Act, which allows municipalities to close and dispose of roadways through bylaw.

Council is set to consider the bylaw at a meeting scheduled for April 27.

Residents who wish to speak on the matter must submit a request to the city clerk’s office by 4:30 p.m. on April 17 to be included on the meeting agenda. Written submissions can also be provided by the same deadline.

Any submissions received after that time may still be presented to council at the start of the meeting, at its discretion.

The proposal is intended to support SaskPower’s use of the land for the power station, though no further details on the project were included in the notice.
