RCMP Report: Vehicle theft thwarted, attempted business B&E’s

Oct 22, 2021 | 6:00 AM

An attempt to steal a vehicle from a rural residence near North Battleford was stymied by Battlefords RCMP, who arrested three suspects.

The incident took place shortly after 10 p.m. on Oct. 15, where the suspects broke into a garage to steal the vehicle. It was recovered a short time later in Delmas, when the three subjects were arrested and charged.

Twenty-one year-old Kianna Fox, 30 year-old Dillon Pooyak and 24 year-old Andrew Semaganis are all charged with break and enter, theft of a vehicle and flight from police. Sgt. Neil Tremblay said they were known to the detachment.

“Our officers are very familiar with them,” he said.

The three were remanded into custody and appeared in court on Monday.

The detachment had 10 other break and enter investigations during the latest service period, including attempted break and enters to businesses on the 1200 and 1100 blocks of 100th Street. In both cases, there was damage to the entrance, but no entry occurred.

Tremblay said the detachment has stayed in contact with several businesses affected by break-ins over the past six months, as well as other nearby, to keep them informed of the investigation’s progress and encourage them to remain watchful.

“Just keeping themselves vigilant in terms of looking out for suspicious activity or people in their area and their neighbour’s area,” he said.

“We have a good inventory of surveillance in the area, so we know where to go to if something happens.”

Call volume dropping

Battlefords RCMP responded to 406 calls for service in total this previous week, a number significantly lower the average call total during the summer.

While a number of high profile arrests may have led to less incidents of crime, Tremblay said the reduction in is typical for this season.

Getting closer to winter, we usually see a decrease in our call volume,” he said. “The weather is getting colder, so that lines up.”

There were still a number of other incidents involving vehicles, with the detachment investigating three cases currently. This includes a blue 2004 Chevrolet Cruze (Saskatchewan license 081-LZR) stolen from Railway Avenue East between October 7-8 (reported last week) and a white 1999 Ford F150 (Saskatchewan license 152-JJV) reported stolen from a rural location near North Battleford on October 18.

Police also arrested a suspicious male armed with a knife who was reportedly looking through vehicles on St. Laurent Drive on October 16th. Tyrell Mosquito (no age provided) has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of break and enter tools, carrying a concealed weapon, and failing to comply with a release order. He was remanded into custody and made his first appearance in court on Monday.

Other Cases

The Battlefords had five missing persons reports, three of which are active, and 11 assault investigations.

On October 14, police attended a residence on the 1800 block of 102nd, where a 23 year-old male suspect was located and arrested on scene. He faces charges of assault, uttering threats and failure to comply with probation. The accused and victim, who was not injured, were known to each other and the former will appear in Battleford Provincial Court later this fall.

Battlefords RCMP also arrested 49 year-old Deanna Caron on October 15, after fleeing a business on the 1100 block of 102nd two days prior, where she had allegedly assaulted a staff member in attempting to steal items. Facing charges of robbery, assault, uttering threats and mischief, she was remanded into custody and made her first appearance in North Battleford court on Monday.

Other calls for service included nine Mental Health Act investigations, six traffic collisions, 59 various traffic charges and two individuals charged with impaired driving offences.

Battleford Fire Department and Battleford RCMP also responded to a fire at an unoccupied residence in Delmas on October 16, which was completely destroyed. No one was injured in the incident, while the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Anyone with information on any incident can call the Battlefords RCMP, 310-RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
