Severe storm expected Wednesday in the Battlefords

A significant winter storm is predicted to hit the Battlefords Wednesday morning.

In a special weather statement on Tuesday, Environment Canada said the area could see freezing rain, followed by a switch to heavy snow. The total snowfall is predicted to land between 10 to 15 centimetres, which includes scattered showers and potential freezing rain. Winds are forecasted to reach 80 kilometres per hour, with gusts possibly in the range of 100-110 km/h.

The City of North Battleford roadways department will be out clearing snow from the storm to keep main streets and roads open, a process made easier with fewer vehicles parked on the street. It’s expected the storm will last until late Thursday night or Friday morning.

All residents are encouraged to remove waste bins from the street to avoid littering the streets if they blow over. Lorass Environmental Services is aware of the situation and will determine with the City of North Battleford if an alternative waste pickup is required for anyone affected.
