The current global pandemic has prevented many of us from travel and entertainment, but it hasn’t taken away the urge to get away and indulge.

Fortunately, there’s a way you can still get your fix of great sights, sounds, suppers and shopping and it can all take place right here – at home.

Discover Lloydminster is all about local tourism and promoting what there is to experience within a 150 kilometer radius of the border city. Whether its Lloydminster, Wainwright or North Battleford, the idea is to support local.

“Instead of heading out to Edmonton, why wouldn’t we save a bit of money for our Lloyd area,” said Randi Noble Smith, Account Coordinator for Red Bicycle Communications and Discover Lloydminster. “There are beautiful trails to go and enjoy with your family all throughout Lloydminster, and in Vermillion provincial park for example – which is gorgeous. So why not go walk the trails there and put some money back into the small business in their community.”

One look through the Discover Lloydminster guide and its clear – anything that’s in Edmonton or Saskatoon is in Lloydminster and surrounding area and Noble Smith said there’s likely more you haven’t seen or heard about. For example, did you know there are over 35 parks in Lloydminster?

“I had a coworker looking through the guidebook saying ‘Oh my goodness, look at these photos. These places are beautiful. Have any of you been here?” and she’s asking coworkers who have lived in the community for years and many of them had never been. So, she took that as a challenge. She took the Discover Lloydminster guide and planned her weekends around things to do from that guide and that’s our goal – to be your go-to planning guide for your stay here.”

Local businesses sponsor Discover Lloydminster through ad sales and are featured throughout the guide. The deadline for future sponsors is Nov. 15. Noble Smith said the publishers are also looking for local photographers, locals or visitors to submit pictures that can be used in the guide.

“Photographers or visitors and residents can tag us on our social media using #discoverlloydminsterfor the chance to be featured on our social media platforms. We are building an online community for our region and want to connect locals with locals, and encourage supporting your hometown from boutiques to coffee shops

So, the next time you’re on a road trip, don’t forget the Discover Lloydminster guide. You can stop for a mouth-watering slice of pizza in Derwent, Alta, grab a cup of java at Route 26 in St. Walburg, Sask. or try your luck at the beautiful Gold Horse Casino in Lloydminster.
