New State of the City Address to benefit The Lighthouse

The City of North Battleford plans to hold its own 2020 State of the City Address coming up March 2, with proceeds from the luncheon event to benefit the Lighthouse Serving the Battlefords.

The event will take place at The Western Development Museum in the Heritage Hall from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

City Manager Randy Patrick said Mayor Ryan Bater will give residents an update on the city’s activities, with highlights from the past year and the city’s plans ahead. People will also have an opportunity to ask questions.

“We hope a lot of people want to attend,” Patrick said. “It’s something new for us, and we still want to make sure people have a chance to meet with their mayor, and hear what is going on.”

In the past the Battlefords Chamber of Commerce held a state of the city and town event for both mayors to give their addresses. This year it is holding a new event, with representation from federal, provincial, and municipal officials in the region. While the city will take part, it also wanted to host its own address.

“We’ve been thinking about it for a while,” Patrick said of the city’s event. “The chamber has changed their format this year; they are doing a regional approach. So we wanted to make sure we were still doing a local approach as well.”

Mayor Bater will provide the State of the City Address highlighting achievements in 2019 the city says will interest residents and business owners alike.

To attend, people need to register online through the city’s website. Tickets are $20 each. Groups interested in purchasing tables are asked to call Evelyn Valentini at the City of North Battleford directly.

Patrick said the fundraiser is a good way to support The Lighthouse too.

“It’s one of those [events] where we feel we can get a fair number of people. It supports one of our local non-profits,” he said. “We want to make sure anything above-cost goes to a good non profit in the community.”

Opening remarks will be provided by Tracey Reimer, manager of the Lighthouse Serving the Battlefords, who will give an update on the organization’s work.

Access Communications Co-operative Ltd. and Bee-J’s Office Plus are sponsoring the event. The city is inviting any other businesses interested in also helping sponsor the initiative to call Evelyn Valentini at City Hall.
