93.3 Ball Breaker raises $20K in cash and food

Dec 17, 2016 | 11:42 AM

More than $20,000 was raised for the Battlefords District Food and Resource Centre at an annual fundraiser.

For the 93.3 The Rock “Ball Breaker,” listeners dropped off donations of cash or soup to enter a draw for a Ski-Doo from NorSask Farm Equipment.

PotashCorp matched all cash donations to bring the total to approximatley $20,000.

Tara Sample, who said she and her family donated over 1,800 cans of soup to the fundraiser, won the Ski-Doo at the Ball Breaker finale Friday.

She said the food bank is very important to her family.

“When we were younger, we had young kids and we needed to use the food bank, and if it wasn’t for them we probably wouldn’t have made it through sometimes,” she said. “When we can afford to do it, we do it and it just makes you feel good.”

Sample’s family enters the contest every year and this year four family members were among the 22 finalists.

The 21 other finalists, including three of Sample’s family members, won other prizes including gift cards and concert tickets.
