Shorthanded Rebels win silver medal at P.A. tournament
Despite having a short bench, the 15-U Riverside Rebels Volleyball Club took home a silver medal from a tournament in Prince Albert over the weekend.
The Rebels lost in the final to the host Prince Albert Toppers En Fuego 25-23, 25-21. The team didn’t have middle Kate Fransoo or right side Ansley Orobko, but managed to go undefeated in the round robin and won an extremely tight semifinal match against Saskatoon HVC White, where the third game was 22-20.
“Our semifinal against Saskatoon, it was an excellent, really close match,” Rebels head coach Vic Stynsky said. “The girls bared down and played as a team and showed that grit at times. We were up in that match. The one game that we lost, we were up and should have put it away and didn’t, and then the third game we were up 13-10 and let them come back.”
Stynsky was very pleased with how the team played, given the short bench.
