North Stars win second straight by way of the shootout
It wasn’t pretty, but as the old saying goes, “a win is a win.”
That’s likely how the Battlefords North Stars feel after their 4-3 shootout win over the Kindersley Klippers on Saturday night, a win that stretched their record this season to an impressive 12-1-1.
“I didn’t think we really played our best,” North Stars assistant coach Boyd Wakelin said in the post-game interview on 93.3 the Rock. “There were times when we brought our energy level up and we played great. We controlled the play. But when they started playing with a little more energy than we had, then they took over. It was kind of a little bit of back and forth. One of those roller coaster games that you don’t really want to get into the habit of playing.”
The shots on goal in the game favoured Kindersley 35-34 according to the gamesheet (although the final scoreboard at the rink said 34-31 for the North Stars), meaning North Stars goaltender Kolby Matthews was credited with 32 saves.
