North Stars make moves ahead of coaching announcement
A new coaching staff will finally be announced at the Civic Centre on Wednesday morning, but the lack of a general manager didn’t stop the Battlefords North Stars from making a couple of moves in late July and early August.
It appears both moves, made by assistant general manager Wylie Riendeau, were intended to make the North Stars tougher, as they obtained Keith Anderson and Tre Doyon in seperate moves.
On July 26, they acquired Doyon from the Lloydminster Bobcats in exchange for a player development fee.
Doyon is a 1998-born forward (he has two years of eligibility left) who stands 5’9″ but is no stranger to the rough stuff. He posted 99 penalty minutes in 47 games last season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League for the Bobcats and recorded two fights. In 2015-16, he had 81 penalty minutes in 30 games for the AAA midget Bobcats, where he was teammates with current North Star MacGregor Sinclair. The team won the Alberta midget championship that season and finished fourth at the Telus Cup.
