Wolf Hunt Offered in Various Saskatchewan Areas

The Ministry of Environment is again offering a wolf hunting season for wildlife management zones along the provincial forest fringe as a method for helping to reduce wolf-livestock conflicts.

The wolf hunt will run from October 15, 2016 to March 31, 2017, and will include wildlife management zones 43, 47, 48, 49, 50, 53, 54, 55 and 68N.

“Livestock predation by wolves is an ongoing problem for producers in areas near the provincial forest,” Environment Minister Scott Moe said.  “Allowing a hunting season in these areas will remove some wolves and cause others to be more wary of moving into open areas where livestock are present.”

The licence is only available to Saskatchewan residents.  There is no limit on the number of licences available.  Licences are not available online – they must be picked up at ministry offices in Meadow Lake, North Battleford, Spiritwood, Prince Albert, Nipawin, Saskatoon, Melfort, Greenwater Lake, Hudson Bay, Preeceville and Regina.

Hunters who purchase a licence will be required to report their results within 14 days of the end of the season.  Hunters who do not comply with this requirement will be excluded from purchasing licences until this reporting requirement has been met.
