City, R.M of North Battleford at impasse over fire services agreement

Jan 15, 2019 | 4:26 PM

If an agreement cannot be negotiated by the end of February, the Rural Municipality of North Battleford could be without firefighting services.

A five-year agreement to supply fire and rescue services to the R.M. from the City of North Battleford fire department ended on Dec. 31 and no additional arrangements have been made for 2019.

According to a press release, the city said the two governments have been unable to negotiate an agreement in recent talks, but “hopefully, one can be reached by the end of February.”

The city has offered to provide service to the R.M. until the end of next month on an on-call basis, to provide additional time for discussions or for the rural government to find alternative firefighting arrangements should an agreement not be ratified.
