The third annual Bottles and Barrels night at the Western Development Museum is getting set to be the best party since prohibition.

The prohibition themed event, held in the WDM’s Summer Room is on October 5, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., and will showcase a variety of different Saskatchewan Microbreweries, distilleries and wineries. The event is 19 and over, and will include entertainment from the King Street Jazz Band.

Shirley Maze, WDM’s Rentals and coordinating supervisor, told battlefordsNOW that the focus of this event is showing off what the province has to offer.

“It’s showing off Saskatchewan entrepreneurship,” she said. “That’s what we like to do here at the museum, being Saskatchewan minded. Our motto is ‘Saskatchewan Inspired’; we want to promote Saskatchewan entrepreneurs. In doing that, being a farming community and the heritage of Saskatchewan, it’s changing. Now a lot of our crops are being used for alcohol, so it’s turned into the wineries, the microbreweries and the distilleries are all using Saskatchewan products.”

As for the entertainment for the evening, Maze said they are there to bring the vibe and the ambience of the evening, and set the stage for the 1920s, prohibition theme. They are encouraging people to dress up, and enjoy the event for all its worth.

“Five members of the King Street Jazz Band, they’re going to be playing the background music for us. It’s not really a dancing event, but there will be music so you can visit, and enjoy the evening with a little bit of jazz there.”

Bottles and Barrels will also have a 50/50, and draws. Tickets for the event are $10 each, and the samples are also cheap as well. They will have a cash bar for full drinks, and food to be purchased at the event.

Maze said the October 5 event will be able to let visitors sample some of Saskatchewan’s best craft liquor, and have some fun.

“This event is really focused on these businesses coming to sample their wares,” she said. “If you want to find something, or try something new as far as beers, liquor or wine, this is the place to come. It’s $2 a drink and you can have as many or as little as you want. It’s a very fun evening, and we hope people come out and enjoy it.“
