Midland set to take the stage in North Battleford

Aug 15, 2018 | 10:01 AM

A Grammy-nominated and ACM award-winning group is coming to North Battleford.

Midland, a group out of Dripping Springs, Texas, will be hitting the Gold Eagle Casino stage Saturday. The group was formed in 2016, and the three songs that were released as singles from their debut album reached as high as number one on Canadian country charts.

Shane Fluney, entertainment co-ordinator at Gold Eagle Casino, told battlefordsNOW that when he received word that Midland was coming, he knew it was a perfect band for the Battlefords.

“This is a country and rock city. They’re always thrilled when we can bring in a headlining act like Midland,” he said. “Especially now that we brought in some support for the tour. We brought in Codie Prevost; he’s the opening act and he’s doing a solo acoustic show.”

Their three singles, “Drinkin’ Problem,” “Make a Little,” and “Burn Out” were all instant fan-favourites. Along with being nominated for Best Country Duo/Group Performance and Best Country Song at the Grammy’s for “Drinkin’ Problem,” the group won New Vocal Duo or Group of the Year at this year’s American Country Music Awards, and was also nominated for Vocal Group of the Year and Single Record of the Year for “Drinkin’ Problem.”

“They kind of have that ’90s sound still to them, like Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn kind of sound,” Fluney said when asked to describe the new band. “If you enjoy country from the ’90s, when it wasn’t over-produced and poppy, then you’ll really enjoy Midland.”

The show is set for 8 p.m., with the doors opening at 7 p.m.. Representatives from Gold Eagle said that as of this morning, 85 per cent of tickets for the Saturday show have been sold.
