N.B. council to decide on discretionary land-use application for retail cannabis site

Aug 5, 2018 | 8:00 AM

North Battleford City Hall will be deciding on three separate discretionary land-use applications at its next meeting, including one to establish a retail cannabis outlet on 114 Street.

Council will vote on the requests on Aug. 20 at 8 p.m.

If anyone wishes to object to any of the applications they need to provide a written submission which must be received by city planner Ryan MacKrell by 4 p.m. on Aug. 15. The city stated in its public notice council will consider all submissions before making their decisions on the proposals.

The city received a discretionary land-use application to establish a cannabis retail outlet at 302 114 Street. The proposed land use may be approved at council’s discretion.

Envirosafe Chemicals Canada had planned to develop its cannabis retail outlet at this location on 114 Street, pending council’s decision.

In North Battleford two cannabis retail store permits had been issued by Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA), to Envirosafe Chemicals Canada and Synergy Five Investments LP respectively, with the locations for the sites still to be determined.

Permits will not take effect until legalization occurs; retails outlets must be operational within 12 months of legalization.

The City of North Battleford also received separate application requests for discretionary land-use approval to establish a hair salon as a home-based business at 2002 99 Street, and to establish a secondary suite at 922 110th Street.

The proposed land uses will be considered for approval, based on council’s discretion.
