The Candlelight Processional: “Better than Disney”

Nov 24, 2016 | 6:18 AM

A depiction of the original Christmas story is coming to the Battlefords for the first time.

The cast and crew of The Candlelight Processional held their first dress rehearsal at the Dekker Centre Nov. 23.

While it’s the first time a show of this kind has come to town, the concept itself isn’t original according to one of its producers, Paul Sayers.

“The idea isn’t original to any of us here. It was borrowed from Walt Disney World …The idea comes from them, but in fact we’re better than Disney,” Sayers said.

Candlelight Processional will feature music selections like Go Tell it on the Mountain and Ava Maria, including solo performances from Michael Lee, Renee L’heuxeau, Rick Kostiuk, and Falynn Prustupa.

The show features a 100 person choir, accompanied by eight live musicians. Award Winning Choir Director Annette Duhaime led the mass choir adding it was a challenge dealing with a group of that size.

“It should be very fun. It’s been a lot of fun so far, and a lot of work,” Duhaime said. “It’s been very exciting being a part of this whole production.”

For one of the directors, Kaelee Frograve, the power of the show is in the heart of its message.

“…bringing the true meaning of Christmas back is the biggest thing, taking out all the commercial part of Christmas and bringing the true meaning of the birth of Jesus,” she said.

The Candlelight Processional will be held at the Dekker Centre on Nov. 27, with showing times at 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.
