Record number of BBEX nominations for 2016 awards

Jul 29, 2016 | 6:00 AM

More than 40 application kits have been submitted for the 2016 Battlefords Business Excellence (BBEX) Awards.

At last count, Battlefords Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Linda Machniak said the BBEX Committee received 44 applications, a record number for the 23rd annual presentation of the awards.

Machniak said the record amount of applications shows how well businesses in the Battlefords are faring.

“We had a very strong set of nominations, people putting names forward of business they thought would be worthy of the applications and the recognition. For all of those businesses to pick up and agree to put their packages in and work really hard towards making them the best they could be, I think that’s fabulous,” Machniak said.

The nominees will be whittled down into finalists for six categories: New Business Venture, Customer Service, Marketing, Micro Business, Community Contribution, and Battlefords’ Best Employer. Any of the finalists will be eligible for Business of the Year. In addition, a Heritage Award recipient will be named prior to the gala.

Machniak added the application kits are very comprehensive, but it hasn’t stopped businesses from doing exceptional work.

“There’s some amazing packages that I’ve seen come across the desk or that we’ve had to print off for people, so it will be an interesting competition for sure,” she said.

The finalists and the Heritage Award recipient will be announced by Labour Day, with the gala scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 4 at the Dekker Centre.
