Another Shutout Loss

North Stars blanked by Millionaires in seventh straight loss

Oct 24, 2026 | 12:11 AM

The Battlefords North Stars lost their seventh consecutive game Friday, falling 1-0 on the road to the Melville Millionaires.

Despite the loss, North Stars assistant coach Owen Lamb was pleased with much of his team’s play.

“I thought it was a good game, but obviously didn’t get the results we wanted,” said Lamb after the game.

“We need a little bit more in those key moments.”

The Millionaires scored the game’s only goal at 5:11 of the first period. Cole Brown carried the puck around the net before finding Kale Margolis in front. Margolis beat Nathan Claydon to give Melville a 1-0 lead.

The North Stars had the period’s lone power-play opportunity, but their struggles with the man advantage continued as they failed to capitalize.

After one: Millionaires lead 1-0. Shots: 12-8 Millionaires.

The second period was a concern heading into the game, as the North Stars had struggled in the middle frame recently.

Both teams had chances in the second period, but neither could score.

Lamb credited Claydon with making key saves to keep the North Stars in the game.

“I just hope he takes confidence out of that because he had a heck of a game tonight,” Lamb said.

After two: Millionaires lead 1-0. Second-period shots: 16-12 Millionaires. Total shots: 28-20 Millionaires.

The North Stars generated their best scoring chances in the final few minutes of the third period.

After pulling their goalie and getting a power-play opportunity, the North Stars sent a flurry of shots towards Millionaires goaltender Noah Kraus.

However, Kraus kept the puck out in the dying minutes to secure his first SJHL shutout.

Final: Millionaires win 1-0. Third-period shots: 11-6 North Stars. Total shots: 34-31 Millionaires.

The North Stars were shut out for the third time this season, matching last season’s total.

In the loss, the North Stars fell to 2-8-1-0 this season. Their two wins are tied with the La Ronge Ice Wolves and Estevan Bruins for the least in the league.

The North Stars head to Yorkton on Saturday evening to face the Terriers for the first time since being eliminated in Game 7 of last season’s semifinals. Lamb hopes last season’s playoff exit provides extra motivation.

“So if we can find some extra juice just playing in the barn that obviously things didn’t go well in the last game of the year, I think that’d be great.”

The North Stars will try to avoid losing eight straight games for the first time since the 2013-14 season.

The Ultra Print pregame show begins at 6:30 p.m., with puck drop at 7 p.m. for NAPA Auto Parts North Stars hockey on CJNB/CJNS.
